Coming from a family of cake decorators, I was the teenager who grew up with ‘run-outs’ drying in her bedroom! At the time, I didn’t appreciate what they were let alone anything to do with cake! After the birth of my first child in 2004, I became addicted, like a lot of mums do, to making their own children’s birthday cakes. With the addition of two more children, demand for specific cake requests in my house increased. So my journey and fixation with cake decorating began and I started running my business from home in 2011.
Having completed my PME Masters Diploma in Sugarpaste, Sugar Flowers and Royal Icing, the more I learned the more I became enthused.Nowadays, there are so many new products and techniques available that there is no end to the learning process. Exploring the intricacies of spun and pulled sugar is my next challenge.
Creating cakes that are very unique and special, is a real passion of mine. Something that makes your day that little bit more special; a memory to treasure. I have “fallen” into modelling (probably from playing with too much play-doh!) having had various eclectic requests for cake toppers – anything from Vespa scooters, bespoke bride and groom characters to a Las Vegas one-armed bandit.
Sharing my skills with others is such a fantastic and rewarding experience. We cater for hobby bakers learning new skills, those wanting to update their skills and learn new techniques as well as those wanting to make their own wedding cakes. Here, at Cake Innovations we like to pass on our skills in a fun, informative but informal way.
I am a member of the British Sugarcraft Guild. It is like belonging to a whole new family of cake and sugarcraft lovers; always happy to talk cake, techniques, style and impart knowledge and skill. What more could you desire?
